North Mill Pond Trail + Greenway
Waterfront Trail + Greenway Planning | Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio collaborated with the City of Portsmouth, Tighe & Bond engineers, and DeRosa Environmental to develop conceptual designs for a linear greenway and community park along the southeast shoreline of North Mill Pond.
The design for the mile-long greenway is driven by a public process to engage the community, property owners and abutters, with an ultimate goal of connecting downtown Portsmouth with adjacent neighborhoods as well as planned transportation, complete streets, bike and greenway improvements in Portsmouth.
Designed to enhance the natural assets of North Mill Pond, the greenway will serve as a valuable open space and habitat and provide an ecologically healthy, socially vibrant, and educational destination for residents and visitors alike. It will feature scenic lookouts and seating, interpretive signage, bank enhancements, including a living shoreline, and potentially a raised boardwalk overlooking the water.
A one-acre community park with flexible seating and a potential shade structure will create a welcoming new public amenity and vibrant, and educational destination. To follow along with the project’s progression, please click here.
