MassHousing closes on $11.2 M in affordable housing financing
NEREJ announced recently that MassHousing closed on a total of $11.2 million in affordable housing financing to WinnCompanies for the development of 22 new rental housing units and 30 new condominiums on the waterfront. The Clippership Apartments and Clippership Condominiums, designed by The Architectural Team with landscape architecture by Halvorson Design, will create new homes for households across a broad range of incomes.
Construction complete for Mount Auburn Cemetery’s Bigelow Chapel expansion and renovation
NEREJ announced that Shawmut has completed construction on the restoration and expansion of Bigelow Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery. The renovation and new addition were designed by William Rawn Associates Architects, with landscape architecture by Halvorson Design, who also designed the Asa Gray Garden, which is visible from the new addition.
Congress Square wins ENR Best Project and AGC Top Honor
Congratulations to the entire Congress Square Team for winning the 2019 ENR New England Best Project Award for Renovation/Reuse and the 2019 Association of General Contractors Build New England Awards Grand Honor. Congress Square was developed by Related Beal, with buildings design by Arrowstreet Architecture and landscape by Halvorson, and was built by Consigli Construction.
Governor Announces Production and Preservation of 1,500 Housing Units Across State
Governor Charlie Baker announced the 2019 Affordable Rental Housing Awards, which will support the preservation and production of 1,581 rental units, including 1,349 affordable units. Projects advanced through this initiative include Phase 2 of the Whittier Choice Neighborhood, designed by The Architectural Team with landscape architecture by Halvorson Design.

Neurosciences Center planned for Yale’s St. Raphael campus in New Haven
Yale New Haven Hospital announced the launch of a major healthcare investment on its Saint Raphael campus in New Haven. The $838 million project would include two new patient facilities, designed by architects Shepley Bulfinch with landscape architecture by Halvorson Design, and focus on innovation in the neurosciences.
East Milton Square plans nearly done
The Patriot Ledger reports that the design for improvements to the East Milton Square Deck and surrounding roadways is nearly complete. Halvorson Design has been collaborating with engineers Howard Stein Hudson and the Town of Milton to create a flexible, welcoming public park on the Milton Square Deck that features an open lawn, surrounded by trees, and will be able to host community events.
Final plans for the renovations are expected to be completed by August, with construction beginning next spring.
Tremont Crossing Groundbreaking Expected By Summer
Tremont Crossing, a new mixed-use complex in Roxbury that has been in the works for several years, is expected to break ground this summer.
The Boston Planning & Development Agency gave final approval to Feldco Development and Emma Lewis Partners to lease the site, which sets the stage for the development team to begin work on the proposed 1.7-million-square-foot complex featuring more than 700 apartments, offices, a new museum of National Center of Afro-American Artists, over 400,000 square feet of retail, and parking for nearly 1,400 cars. Halvorson Design is providing landscape architecture for the 7.5-acre site.
An East Boston complex big on community amenities starts preleasing
Clippership Wharf, the much-anticipated waterfront development rising in East Boston, has begun preleasing in advance of its June opening. The four-building complex, developed by Lendlease with The Architectural Team and landscape by Halvorson Design, will feature 284 apartments and 194 condo units, a meeting/event space, art gallery, and public access to the waterfront.
