Generals Park
Quincy, Massachusetts
Generals Park, the latest addition to downtown Quincy’s public open space network, serves as both a public amenity and a monument honoring 18 U.S. Generals, and all military personnel with local roots, for their service.
The park features bronze likenesses of seven generals—three statues and four busts—an array of pavers, and a dynamic circular water feature. Interpretive text etched in the stone recalls the individual achievements of the three four-star generals and offers moments of reflection and recognition. The hardscape materials, including brick and stone, are designed to be durable and integrate with Quincy’s reinvigorated downtown aesthetic.
In addition to celebrating Quincy’s ongoing legacy of service and leadership, Generals Park also acts an important open space for residents and visitors. Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio worked closely with City officials to develop an attractive park atmosphere offering a variety of seating and site furnishings, surrounded by colorful plantings and shade trees, and a large open lawn for passive recreation.
The new Generals Bridge and Park unite to create a functional and monumental gateway to the downtown, expanding the successful footprint of the New Quincy Center.
