We are collaborating with the Boston Public Health Commission to create an inviting and engaging courtyard adjacent to the Southampton Street Shelter for guests. The shelter provides an uplifting and safe place for over 300 people in need and services for guests with active substance use. The design provides multiple outdoor program spaces for shelter guests.
The courtyard amenities will include a library seating/reading area, a workout space, a prayer area, a running track, a bocce court, and a flexible space that can accommodate outdoor games and seating. The movable furniture and diverse seating arrangement allow the guests to engage in group activities or enjoy solitude. Larger metal planters are placed to help create semi-public spaces while trees and plantings bring greenery and seasonal changes to this once-deserted space.
