Massport Neptune Road Airport Edge Buffer

Massport commissioned Halvorson to create an open space near Logan Airport as part of an ambitious effort to expand green networks in East Boston. To commemorate the families who once lived in the neighborhood, the landscape design embraces symbols of the past, from cobblestones tracing the footprints of the original homes to interpretive artwork inspired by reminiscences of former residents.
Careful site grading allowed the reuse of existing soils on site to form sweeping, planted landforms that frame the open space. Extending from the East Boston Greenway, the site includes a dedicated cycle path and several walking routes. Halvorson was involved in the project from schematic design through construction administration.
